Karl O'Connor, known professionally as Regis, is an Irish-born British techno musician and record label owner.
Born in Dublin, Ireland, he later moved to Birmingham, UK, where he became a pivotal figure in the techno music scene.
In 1993, O'Connor co-founded Downwards Records with Peter Sutton (also known as Female) in the Halesowen area of Birmingham.
The label became instrumental in developing the Birmingham sound, blending Chicago house with darker European electronics.
Throughout his career, O'Connor has been involved in various collaborations and projects.
Notably, he partnered with Anthony Child (known as Surgeon) to form the British Murder Boys in 2002, a project that drew on non-techno influences to create an original concept for the dancefloor.
O'Connor has also been associated with the Sandwell District collective, an international techno collective/label he joined in 2002 alongside artists like Silent Servant and Function (Dave Sumner).
O'Connor's influence extends beyond his music; he has been a significant figure in shaping the techno genre, known for his unorthodox approach and dedication to his craft.
